On April 3rd, the UK government stated it would be starting the worlds largest Covid-19 Drug trials.

According to the UK government website,,

“The world’s largest randomised clinical trial of potential coronavirus treatments is well underway in the UK as part of the race to find a treatment.”

In another Quote it was stated there are a number of Promicing trials to take place.

“A number of promising treatments are being tested and, if the science supports it, will be given to NHS patients as quickly as possible.”


Results from the clinical trials are expected to be available within months, this is the only available information from the Government website about timescales.

Three drugs we can confirm will be tested in the trials are listed here –

  • Lopinavir-Ritonavir, commonly used to treat HIV
  • Dexamethasone, a type of steroid use in a range of conditions to reduce inflammation
  • Hydroxychloroquine, a treatment for malaria
