The impact Of AI in the future could be amazing if we take advantage of its unique benefits, AI has the ability to think faster and research quicker than humans and that’s what we are primarily using it for at the moment, services like chat-GPT let us ask questions, sift through data, provide answers and solutions, however AI is gaining access to more and more in general terms.
Personally I have given GPT access to my home assistant server, the current integration lets it control any device I have then asked too, I could implement an hourly routine that says make sure I’m running my home efficiently, this in turn would allow the service to turn off lights, turn down the heating if its hot inside, it could even check water usage stats and let me know there is something abnormal comparative to normal use.
The biggest movement for AI is work and business, more and more business are using it to complete tasks and find solutions or streamline processes, long gone are the days of searching spreadsheet and calculating data, simply give it to AI and ask your questions, there are limits for the average user such as file size limits or length of text you can paste but as time goes on things will get better, data will get smaller and AI will advance to the point where it would be natively running on your PC, we all use CPU chip, a GPU for graphics, what’s to stop the addition of a AI chip implementation that can be upgraded and replaced if broken on our mother boards just like we do with RAM, CPU, GPU and Storage devices, this might be a long way off in the future but its certainly a principal I would not be adverse too, and how would they work, would we train our own models, download big ones from Microsoft or apple, or would having a new AI chip be like having a baby, something you have to nurture something you teach and share across your whole business so its specifically good at what your company does.
Healthcare will also advance from AI and it already is, to train a model on spotting things such as cancer in Xray’s or CT scans is no hardship, you give it an image and say this it normal, here is 500 more images, compare them, spot abnormalities and then confirm its correct, we can also use AI to come up with experiments to test hypothesis and rule out the ones that wont work.
Overall AI could be the best thing form humanity, however it could be our downfall, with AI taking up jobs, and requiring no pay, what jobs will humans do, what if we gave AI a robotic shell so it could walk around and interact, what if it built a new shell 100X better for itself from what it has learned, it could all get very sci-fi very quick and we either need to learn to adapt with it or were going to struggle and a society and economy over the next 100 years.
What if AI were to get into the wrong hands, lets say a hacker gets a new AI to train as an AI hacker, the system tries to find backdoors and reports back to the hacker who is on a beach, the backdoors is found and the hacker simply uses it to leverage money from a government or business, what if an entire country uses this technique to cause chaos globally, are we going to be safe as a connected world?
The possibilities of AI are amazing and scary, for now its in its infancy, some is open source and freely available, currently it requires high end and expensive hardware to operate, maybe that’s the only reason the world hasten fallen to humans using AI to cause chaos , or maybe were using AI to keep things safe, asking AI to find the weaknesses and patch them before hackers get a chance, its all very interesting and there is a lot of questions, but one thing is for sure, the next 20 years, will be very telling.!
